bakeandreadHello there!

My name is Sari Castro and two of my passions are baking and writing!

Let me tell you how it all started. First, go back a few years when Harry Potter and the chamber of the secrets had been released (back in 2002). Now, picture an eight-year-old girl who has been deeply captivated by this incredible plot and cannot wait a whole year for the next movie to be released and who wants so badly to go to Hogwarts and be part of this journey. So one night after several attempts to get into the TV screen and failing at it (I know I wasn’t the only who tried this), she decides that there must be another way. So that night, while one of her older sister and her mom watched the novela, she goes to her mom’s desk, grabs four blank 8.5 x 11″ pages, cuts them in four and staples them together; grabs a pen and starts writing. She writes a story about how her sister and her go to Hogwarts and go to adventures with Harry, Hermione and Ron. At the end she puts down the pen and after reading the story, she feels satisfied, because for a moment it all felt real. Because even though reality could not give her what she wanted, she found a way to get it through fiction. And that’s how I learned the magic and beauty of writing fiction 🙂 <3!

Baking, it’s rather a simple story. I’ve always loved pastries, I mean, who doesn’t? But I’ve always found trouble finding the perfect desserts, you know, not too sweet, not too this, not too that. And I thought, “everything would be easier if I could just do this myself, so I could get it whenever I wanted” but I had one problem: I didn’t even know how to turn on the oven. So, during my semester off, I decided I would give it a try and you know what? IT WORKED! After that one try I started baking all sort of treats and pastries from oatmeal cookies to chocolate croissants 🙂 !

Think of this blog as your virtual Cafe. I’ll teach you how to bake delicious goodies, and give you tips for healthier versions of them (without using a fancy kitchenAid blender, though I hope to get one, one of these Christmases). So that later, you can eat them while escaping from reality through a captivating story 🙂 !

    1. Thanks so much Randy. The texture it’s pretty much all about good timing in the oven and the caramelization of the raw sugar 🙂 thanks for stopping by, your recipes look pretty ingenious as well! Will probably try them one of these days :)!

  1. Love apple pie. We used to go apple picking when I was a kid — had some pies, back in the days! I’ve been dreaming about making my own recipe for one, too! I’ll have to give it a shot. Yours really looks good — I’ll have to try that, too!
